Obituary

Arthur 'Skip' M. La Porte, 88, passed away peacefully March 18 at Cedar Creek Manor in Kronenwetter, where he made his home for the past 5 years.

Skip was born on Feb. 10, 1937, to Arthur La Porte Jr. and Evelyn (Means) Hanson in Schofield, WI.

He attended D.C. Everest High School and during his Senior year, joined the United States Air Force where he became a helicopter mechanic. He spent 1 year in Goose Bay, Labrador. After the service, Skip worked at American Can paper mill in Rothschild and later left, to run his own carpentry/contractor business. He built many homes in Rothschild, Kronenwetter, Weston and Arbor Vitae.

Skip's favorite 'hobby' was building homes. He truly enjoyed that. In his earlier years, Skip also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling.

Survivors include his children: Kevin (Sheri) La Porte, Aniwa, Vicki La Porte, Rothschild, Karen (Dennis) Connor and Kurt (Tammy) La Porte, both of Ringle. He is also survived by his sister Charmaine Bradley, Mosinee and brother Arlyn (Bonnie) La Porte, Wausau; half-siblings Kris (Roger) Feldmann, Mark, Valgene and Barb (Buddy Stahl) La Porte,Janice (Tom) Przybylski and sister-in-law, Patti La Porte; grandchildren Matt (Karmen Koehmstedt) La Porte, Sarasota, FL, Nick La Porte, Minoqua, Peter (Debbie) Brzezinski, Superior, Rebecca (Derrick Nelson) Brzezinski, Rice, MN, Jennifer (Justin) Bender, Hatley, Natalie (Andrew) Normand, Easton, Laura (Josh) Epps, Ringle, Ashley La Porte, Schofield, Nathen (Chardae) La Porte, Oshkosh, Levi La Porte, Ringle, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary (Sucharski-Bender), brother Ronald La Porte, sister, Dolores 'Tootie' Kopp, half-siblings Jerome and Keith La Porte, Kay Moesch and brothers-in-law Dudley Bradley, Jim Kopp and Ron Moesch.

From Skip's family, we'd like to thank the staff at Cedar Creek Manor who joked with, laughed with and cared for Skip, when his family wasn't there, and we appreciate all you did for him.

Per Skip's request, there will not be any funeral services.
