After a hard-fought battle with heart and other health issues, Barbara Ann Philleo (née Pyle) was taken back into Christ's embrace the morning of April 17th, 2025, at the age of 77. She peacefully passed in her sleep while in the care of Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin.

She was the epitome of bravery, faith, strength throughout, never once complaining, showing pain or fear, though she wasn't afraid to let the nurses know exactly what she thought about all their poking and prodding. In the end, she reminded us all that the most important thing we do with our lives is to help our fellow person and embody God's will of "always progressing."

Barbara was born Saturday, January 24th, 1948, in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey to parents William and Elinore, and her sister Judi welcoming her. Later, she and her parents moved to rural Merrill, Wisconsin where she developed her love of animals, having many beloved pets during her childhood. As a teenager, she adored her first car, a '57 Chevy, and often recalled it fondly, sharing her memories of what a great car it was and how she wished she still had it.

As a young adult, she met Thomas Allen Philleo, whom she later married on Sunday, October 24th, 1971, and had 5 children together, whom they loved immensely. She was a kind, steadfast wife and mother, accomplished local news reporter, and prolific author, having self-published a remarkable eight different works geared towards young adults. She worked tirelessly to create engaging narrative fiction to help others identify and avoid the dangers of religious cults and never missed a chance to opine on the subject.

Later in her journey of life she moved to her final home in Wisconsin Rapids. To her it was a treasure, a beautiful sanctuary where she could fully embrace and enjoy her independence. She loved visits, and family gatherings at her house was something she encouraged and looked forward to for months.

Despite all of her achievements, she always considered her children and grandchildren her greatest source of pride. She took great joy in keeping up to date with their stories, pictures, and accomplishments. She still had love to spare for her pets, particularly her chihuahua (Candy) and later on her tabby cat (Cookie). They were members of the family in her eyes, and she enjoyed a very close bond with them.

She also had a knack for home crafts and clever solutions. She was very resourceful, a skill that came in handy many times, especially when money was tight. Her youngest son, Michael, had a "hat day" coming up during elementary school, but had nothing remarkable to bring and no money to buy one. So, she worked late in the evening to craft a bycoket, or "Robin Hood" style hat out of cardboard, beautiful blue satin, and the proud, red plume of a costume feather. The next day, he wore this hat at school and was the envy of the other children. Michael also warmly recalls coming home from preschool in Eland, to the sweet aroma of homemade granola, made on an iron skillet, a fresh snack to enjoy; he can still remember the sweet and savory flavor of food prepared with love. Peter, her second eldest, still remembers the consistent Friday or Saturday evening family discussions in the living room of one house or another, punctuated by her trademark tongue-in-cheek 'silencio!' when things got too rambunctious or if she had some proclamation to make. Barbara certainly did like her proclamations.

Barbara was a very loving, open-hearted, astute, wise and witty individual, and perhaps most of all, strong in her faith in God. She was always willing to chat and share her observations and opinions about life, people, family, and religion. Her memory was as sharp as her wit, and she would often describe events in detail from decades ago that the rest of her children only recalled vaguely.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Judi Liebers, her sons Paul, Peter, Matthew, and Michael, her daughter Rebecca Sparks, her daughters-in-law Erin Philleo and Randi Philleo, son-in-law Jason Sparks, and eleven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband, Thomas Philleo, her father William Pyle, mother Elinore Pyle, and daughter-in-law Leah Philleo.
