Obituary

Dwight Hetzel, of Merrill, was born on December 23, 1949, to the late Russell and Dolores (Knight) Hetzel. He passed away on December 13, 2025.

Dwight joined and honorably served in the United States Air Force. He was a hardworking man who spent his life providing for his family through years of dedication and determination. Over the course of his career, he worked for Eagle Express, deBoer, Sequoia, B&D Trucking, Mullens Cheese, and HURD. He also worked on a dairy farm before eventually becoming an owner/operator over-the-road truck driver, a role he took great pride in until his retirement.

A true outdoorsman, Dwight loved spending time camping, fishing, and hunting. Hunting was never just a sport to him—it was a way to provide for his family, filling the freezer and teaching the values of responsibility and self-reliance to his sons. Family meant everything to Dwight. He raised four boys and was a proud and devoted grandpa to seven grandchildren.

Dwight is survived by his four sons: Ira (Pearl) Hetzel, Chris Hetzel, Erik (Monica) Hetzel, and Patrick (Emily) Hetzel; and his seven grandchildren: Davin, Dean, Brianna, Aiden, Mallory, Sawyer, and Ryker.

In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his sister, Karlie Wolff.

Dwight will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of the outdoors, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he shaped and the values he passed down.
