Helen K Tornow, 87 of Wausau, WI, received her hearts wish on Thursday, August 12, 2021, when she was called home to join her beloved husband Truman Tornow.
She was born November 17, 1933 in Wausau, WI, the daughter of the late Emil and Cecilia (Dart) Kasten. She married Truman Tornow on October 11, 1953 in Wausau.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a member of the Valparaiso Ladies Guild, English Department Librarian at Wausau West High School and member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau and a caregiver to anyone she met.
Even with all her volunteer activities, she loved to go camping with Truman and the kids visiting local state and national parks, creating libraries wherever she went and on her hands and knees tending to her gardens, those were the things that made her the happiest.
Even with her many volunteer commitments, being wife, mom and grandma always came first. Nothing made her happier than to hold family gatherings where there was always plenty of amazing food and baked goodies.
The family wants to thank the staff at Friendly Village Nursing Home of Rhinelander, WI for the excellent care she received during the last years of her life, they truly treated her as if she were their own mother.
Helen is survived by her 5 children, Blaine (Elaine) Tornow of Durango, CO, Truman (Sharon) Jr. Tornow of Rib Mountain, WI, Linda (David) Hoover of Arbor Vitae, WI, Mark (Karmen) Tornow of Boulder Junction, WI and Kay (Dan) Morris of Mancos, CO., 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and close niece Grace Ashbeck and cousin Carolyn Miller.
Per Helen's wishes a private memorial service was held.
