Jay Dee Cole, a beloved friend and dedicated serviceman, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 1, 2025, in Mosinee, WI. He was 76 years old. Born on February 2, 1948, in Beloit, WI, Jay's life was marked by unwavering loyalty, a generous spirit, and a deep love for his friends and country.

After graduating high school in Beloit, Jay proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1969. His service included overseas deployment with the 178th AVN CO, 14th ABN BN, APO SF, where he served as a METR Helicopter Mechanic and Aircraft Specialist. His exemplary service earned him numerous accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster). He also received the Expert Badge-Rifle. His extensive training included Multi-Engine Tandem Rotor Helicopter Mechanic Procedures at the U.S. Army Transportation School, Fort Eustis, VA, and Teletype Morse Code at Fort Hood, Texas. Following his active duty, he transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve Control Group in St. Louis, Missouri.

Following his military service, Jay found love and companionship with his wife, Ruthie, his longtime partner and best friend. Their marriage was a testament to their enduring bond, tragically cut short by Ruthie's passing after a battle with cancer. In loving memory of Ruthie, Jay affectionately named his car "Gertrude," her nickname, and continued to raise a toast with Polish brandy in her honor. He leaves behind his sister Vickie Duff, nieces and nephews and dear friend Meldon Maguire. He is preceded in death by his brother "Bud".

In his free time, Jay enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends at local taverns, always ready to lend a helping hand. He cherished time spent hunting and with his cherished companions. His easygoing nature and willingness to assist others made him a beloved figure in his community.

A celebration of Jay's life will be held at the Hog Creek Saloon in Mosinee, WI, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. A military burial with full honors will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau, WI, on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.

Jay will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
