It is with a heavy heart that we announce Jay Harry Emmerich, age 69, passed away peacefully at his

home on September 22, 2023. He was born in Wausau and truly enjoyed settling in his home town

with his wife, Deb (Schubitz) who survives. He has also left behind his son James, daughters Anna

(Leif Mueller) and Sarah (Alan Wizemann), granddaughter Loie Wizemann, sister LeAnne (Tom

Ferris).He is also survived by cousins, nephews, nieces, and their children. He was the son of the late

Eldon and Eunice (Dickman) Emmerich.

Quoted from a close friend "Jay was the essence of camaraderie and the catalyst behind countless

memorable moments in many lives. His boundless enthusiasm and endless well of ideas made him the

go-to person for a touch of his unparalleled zest for life." Jay found joy in the simple pleasures of life

whether it tuning into the latest Wisconsin sport game or finding peace in the outdoors like fishing,

hunting, golfing, snowmobiling. Pontooning with Dad was a memorable event for family and friends.

With Jay there was never a dull moment. His mischievous smile alerted us that something was about to

happen--a reminder that life is meant to be enjoyed to its fullest.

Jay had a special bond with many great friends, extending from kindergarten, that he continued to

reminisce on well into his 60s. He never missed a Triathlon nor a buddy's birthday party! Always a

story-teller, gregarious, charismatic and loving, a self-made man of extraordinary intelligence and

entrepreneurial spirit. He embarked on various ventures/careers including Storekeeper for Dept of

Natural Resources which included visits to the local bakery, Product Manager of Lawn and Garden

Tools at Fiskars Manufacturing, Marketing sales & investing at North Country Investment, Claims

Adjuster for Wausau-Stettin Insurance, each was marked by his dedication and success as they suited

his love for learning, investing, problem solving, repairing and helping others. His community

involvement included Boy Scouts of America, WAYSA, and Rib Mt Business Association. During his

retirement years he joined the Wausau Curling Club. He was part of a core group in repairing it's

original facility and the successful launching of the nationally recognized Wausau Curling Club's

facility in 2012. He really enjoyed ice making, problem solving, curling and it's traditional etiquette

which may include an occasional club refreshment.

Throughout his valiant battle against a long, relentless illness, he showed strength and courage but

more importantly humor and a smile. Jay's passing leaves a void in our lives; he may have left this

world, but his spirit, laughter and indomitable zest for life will forever echo in our hearts. His memory

will be cherished, his wisdom remembered, and his love treasured. We will carry his legacy forward

with the same enthusiasm and love he shared with us.

The Emmerich family would like to thank his care teams over the years, the latest being Aspirus

Hospice Services. Special thanks to his caregivers, especially Tina and Lisa, for the love, care and

While no funeral service is currently scheduled, a celebration of life ceremony will be announced at a
