Jeanine D. Sewell, 87, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, under the compassionate care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice at Weston Memory Care.

Jeanine was born on March 24, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Benjamin and Julia (Dziewidik) Katz. She dedicated her life to helping others, earning her Master's Degree in Psychiatric Social Work from Case Western Reserve University. Throughout her career, she served with empathy and commitment, working at Michigan Technological University and with Dial Help, where she provided vital support to individuals struggling with thoughts of self-harm.

Jeanine was deeply involved in her community and served as President of the Hancock School Board, where she worked to improve education and advocate for students and families.

She had a rich and vibrant personality, known for her sharp wit and unforgettable laugh. Jeanine found joy in gardening, reading mystery novels, and appreciating the arts, especially classical music and folk art. She was also an avid sports fan who particularly enjoyed tennis and football.

A lifelong lover of travel and adventure, Jeanine explored the world extensively, visiting Europe, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Russia, and China. Some of her most treasured memories were made traveling with her beloved sons, whom she adored and was immensely proud of. They fondly remember their trips to Mexico and a memorable journey across Europe, where they spent weeks exploring from Greece to Italy to London.

Above all, Jeanine was a devoted mother and a wonderful grandmother. She shared a special bond with her grandson, Ian, and took great pride in her family.

She is survived by her sons, Andrew (Elizabeth Simoneau) Sewell and Michael Sewell; her grandson, Ian; and her brother, Jerry Katz.

Jeanine will be remembered for her compassion, intelligence, humor, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she created.
