Laura Kathleen Thiele, 27, Weston, WI passed away December 7, 2021 after a 14-year battle
with anorexia. Although the disease ravaged her body, her brilliant mind remained active and
engaging. She continued her quest for more education throughout her life, amazing all who
encountered her with her wit, wisdom, and thirst for knowledge.
Laura was born on February 22,1994 in Stevens Point, WI. She graduated from DC Everest
High School in 2012 with high honors and was a National Merit Scholar. She attended
UW-Oshkosh on a full-ride scholarship. Laura graduated from UW-Marathon County in 2015
and was pursuing a nursing degree from Northcentral Technical College (NTC) and Upper Iowa
University.
While a student at UW-Marathon County, Laura worked as a math tutor. She enjoyed watching
people learn to love math as much as she did. During her time at NTC, Laura was employed at
Tender Reflections as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved all of her patients and was
saddened when she had to stop working because of her eating disorder in an effort to attend to
her own health. Laura loved music and spent many hours writing, composing and singing. Her
family is grateful for the legacy of music she leaves behind for them to treasure. She was a
bright, talented and kind individual who loved her family and her beloved cats, Spot, Oreo, and
Lily.
Her family and friends will miss her more than words can say. She traveled a difficult path but
she did not walk alone, as her mother, sister, and many friends walked with her every step of
her impossible journey.
Laura is survived by her sister Emily Thiele, mother Kathleen (Kay) Kort, father Kris Thiele,
maternal grandmother Mary Kort as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded
in death by her maternal grandfather Gerald Kort, paternal grandparents Donald and Ann
Thiele, and her uncle and godfather Timothy Kort.
The family would like to thank Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services for their wonderful care
of Laura during her final days and are especially grateful to them for their patience with all of her
questions!
At Laura's request, memorials can be given to a local Humane Society for a spay/neuter or pet
adoption sponsorship, KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. or to the University of Maryland Brain &
Tissue Bank to support Anorexia research. Please contact her mother, Kay, for specific wording
for a donation to the University of Maryland.
A private memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date.
