Mae Lenora Nelson (Mabel Lenora Koehler) age 92, went peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior, October 15, 2021. She was born July 15, 1929 to Theophilus and Ida Koehler, and grew up in Bruce Crossing, Michigan. During the summers of her youth, she worked at King's Gateway in Land O' Lakes, WI. After graduating from Ewen High School in 1947, Mae moved to Wausau, WI where, due to her high scores in chemistry, was offered a laboratory job usually reserved for college graduates at Sterling Drug. In November 1949, she met the love of her life Jack G. Nelson, and they married September 19, 1953.
Her career in business management included several years as manager of the Credit Bureau of Wausau. She concluded her career at Kennedy Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She golfed every Monday for 50 years with the Lucky Birdies on the Little Ladies Golf League at the Rib Mountain Golf Course. She enjoyed taking a variety of classes at the UWMC in retirement. Her favorite classes were the ones that inspired her love of art. Mae volunteered countless hours at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where her talent for flower arrangement resulted in corsages for new members, baptisms, and confirmations. She spearheaded & organized the Theatre Trippers as a social activity in the church. Mae also established the Tiny Tots Closet to provide diapers for economically disadvantaged families of the Wausau area.
Friends often commented on Mae's classic fashions, her flair with scarves, and her sense of humor. She enjoyed jokes, even though she often laughed delivering the punchlines.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 68 years Jack, children Kim (Bill) Reichenbach Pewaukee, Kyle (Janice) Nelson Wausau, Shanon (Jon) Holschbach Manitowoc, grandchildren Jennifer (Michelle)Vedder Wausau, Kristen Nelson Wausau, Brock Nelson Wausau, Noah (Lindsay) King Hatley, Josh King Hatley, Tyler King Hatley, Shanna King Hatley, Great grandsons Tanner and Kaeden, sisters June Burke Trout Creek, MI, and Shirley Neitzel Grand Rapids, MI, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may greet the family at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St. Wausau.
