Marilyn Mae Schumacher, age 83, of Marathon, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, in Marathon.

Marilyn was born in Wausau to Alex and Eleanor (Hornung) Buchberger on December 31, 1940.

Marilyn grew up on a farm in the Town of Marathon. She attended school in Marathon, graduating from Marathon High School in 1959. She was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marathon.

She was united in marriage to Virgil R. Schumacher at St. Mary's Church in Marathon on September 17, 1960. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2001.

Marilyn and Virgil owned and operated the Poplar Tree Ballroom and Tavern and also raised ginseng for many years. Marilyn loved family time together, spending time with the grandchildren and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Traci) Schumacher and Richard (Sherrie) Schumacher; grandchildren, Ami Schumacher, Wesley Schumacher, Jennifer (Eric) VandeBoom, Thomas (Jordan) Schumacher, and Brianna Schumacher; great grandchildren Alicia Schumacher and Josie and Briella VandeBoom. Marilyn is further survived by one sister, Joan Lepak.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, Michael and infant daughter Mary Ann; her siblings, Earl Buchberger, Charles Buchberger, and Alice Lepak; as well as her brothers-in-law, Leonard Lepak, and Jerome Lepak and sisters-in-law Theresa Buchberger and Cindy Buchberger.

A private ceremony for Marilyn will be held at St. Mary's in Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be held in the Parish Cemetery.
