Mark D. Welbes, age 79, passed away on January 7, 2026, just two days after celebrating his birthday. He was born on January 5, 1947, in Illinois and spent most of his life in Wisconsin, a place he proudly called home—except for a brief adventure in Alaska, where he went in search of "the big buck."

Mark worked in the dairy industry throughout his life, with over 20 years as a filed technician for DHIA, where he met many people who became lifetime friends.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Mark loved the outdoors and always had a story to tell—especially about the "big ones" that got away, or the tree limbs he managed to catch along the way. In his younger years, Mark enjoyed playing baseball and carried that love of the game with him throughout his life.

Mark was a natural storyteller—quick with a joke, full of stories, and always good for a laugh. He leaves behind many memories that his family will continue to share and cherish.

He is survived by his brothers, George Welbes Jr. (Pamela), and John Welbes (Clarice); family members, Andrew (Lillie) Curran and Melanie (Ray) Easterlin; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cecilia (Vogl) Welbes.

Mark will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

The family would like to thank both Bedrock Health Care Services of Abbotsford and Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Medford for their care and support of Mark while he is in their care; as well as his neighbors and friends who were always there for him.
