Obituary

Maryann ("Mary") Mae Durand Maryann ("Mary") Mae Durand, age 72, of Rothschild, passed away on Monday January 10, 2022 at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston, WI. She was born to the late John Nick and Emma Tall on May 26, 1949 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Mary was proud of her Native American Heritage and was an enrolled member of the St. Croix Chippewa Tribe. She lived a life full of adventure. After living out of state for a few years, Mary chose to relocate back to the Wausau area in 2003 so that she could help and watch her grandchildren grow. She had a huge heart, and would take care of those who needed her, including many of her children's and grandchildren's friends, most of whom also became like family, and affectionately referred to her as their Mom and Grandma too. She could sew or mend almost anything. Mary enjoyed cooking and shared a special bond with her grandchildren. She and Dominique would often create and try out new recipes at home together. Mary always made sure that no one ever left her house with an empty stomach and that there were plenty of leftovers to take home. When Mary wasn't busy with caring for and playing with her great granddaughter Sirena, you could often catch her watching her favorite movies while drinking coffee, crocheting, reading books, doing word search puzzles, or making dreamcatchers. She loved getting together with family to visit and play board games, such as Scrabble, Yahtzee, and Rummy. When Mary wasn't at home, she liked shopping and also enjoyed playing the slot machines and Bingo at the casino. Above all else, she especially cherished the time she spent with family and friends. Mary is survived by her daughter, Shawn (Ken) Petrusczak), of Rothschild; son, David ( Danielle ) Voigt, of Appleton; grandchildren; Dominique Duranceau, Michael Duranceau, Dakota Duranceau, Calvin Frahm III, and Nicholas Voigt; and one great granddaughter, Sirena Bergeron. Mary was the heart of her family and will be forever greatly missed by all of the those who knew and loved her. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ross Durand; daughter, Janitte Voigt; sisters, Rose Marie and Arlene ( "Sonny" ), and brother John Jr. A Celebration of Mary's life will be planned to take place this summer for family and friends to attend. The family will announce a specific time and location at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Children's Miracle Network. Mid Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting family at this time. Online condolences may be expressed at MidWisconsinCremationSociety.com
