Michael Atarian, 90, passed away at home on Tuesday September 21st. Mike was born in St. Paul Minnesota, son of the late Andrew and Sultan Atarian. He grew up surrounded by a large extended Armenian community. After graduating from Monroe High School, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korea War stationed in Germany. He returned to St. Paul and went to work for the Great Northern Railroad as a chef on the Empire Builder route from Chicago to Seattle. He met his future wife, Charlotte, in St. Paul and they married in January of 1958. They started their family in St. Paul and eventually moved to Northern Minnesota. He worked for Peter's Meats as a regional sales manager. A job which eventually lead him to Wausau where he held the position of Director of Food Service at Wausau Insurance for over 20 years. Mike was a very active member of the Town of Texas Lions Club and also served as the Treasurer of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Mike as an avid Minnesota Viking fan and was affectionately known by his friends as "Minnesota Mike". He and Chicki also enjoyed many family camping trips and bridge and gourmet club with their close friends. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Chicki); children Mark Atarian, Julie (Ron) Klinner, Shelly (Glen) Harvell; Grandchildren Andrew Harvell, Emily Harvell, Ric Klinner, Jenna Klinner, Charles Atarian and Thomas Atarian; Niece and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul and brother-in-law, Chuck Cooper. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
