Nancy L. Schulz (Rothschild and Wausau), age 83, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior and entered into eternal life.
Nancy was born November 13, 1942, in Wausau to Arnold and Florence (Hoppe) Hoeft. She was a “Grant School kid.” At age sixteen, she got her first job at S.S. Kresge’s in downtown Wausau. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1961. She then worked at Employers Insurance of Wausau until 1967.
In 1963, she met her “love at first sight,” husband-to-be, John R. Schulz. They were married June 27, 1964, in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2024.
Nancy was blessed with two children, Tim and Colette, who were her proudest accomplishment. She was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom and considered the “neighborhood Mom” to all of the children on her block in Rothschild. She volunteered at her children’s schools and babysat for neighborhood children. She was an avid reader, with a library of 2,000 books of her own, and a creative soul with a talent for drawing/painting. She enjoyed spending time at the Schulz family lake home at Star Lake in Vilas County, their little bit of heaven on earth and a lot of Schulz Star Lake history. Her greatest joy was her family, which included her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Later in life, she found joy in her Applegate Terrace community and her love of coloring. She enjoyed her Packers but loved her baseball and her Milwaukee Brewers.
Nancy is survived by her son, Tim, Rothschild; daughter, Colette Brill (Matt), Wausau; grandchildren: Allison Dean (Floyd), Weston; Nathan Brill (Jessica), Wausau; Brett Schulz and Amanda Schulz, both of Wausau, and their mother, Amy Schulz, Wausau; great-grandchildren Everett and Bella Dean, both of Weston; one sister, Mary Howland, Weston; many nephews and nieces from Milwaukee, South Carolina, and Arizona; her beloved Canary, Poppy; and all the wonderful friends and neighbors she was blessed to have in her life.
She was preceded in death by John; her mother, Florence; father, Arnold; brother, Karl; brother-in-law, Lyle Howland; brother-in-law, Norman Cooke; sister-in-law, Phyllis Cooke; sister-in-law, Jeanne Anderson; niece, Julie Cooke; nephew, Keith Howland.
Services will be held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Wausau, on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 11:00 am, with a visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. There will also be a visitation at church on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 4:00-7:00 pm, in the church parlor. Her final resting place will be in the Star Lake Cemetery during a private family ceremony.
The Schulz/Brill/Dean Families would like to thank the caregivers at the Aspirus Hospice House for the excellent care of Nancy. Your love, care, and kindness will not be forgotten.
