Steven D. Nelson age 57 of Wausau, WI passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 24, 2024, surrounded by loved ones after fighting a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer.

Steve was born on May 27, 1967, to Wayne and Carolyn (Synnot) Nelson in Wabasha, MN

Steve married Rita Butzlaff on October 19, 1991, in Weston, WI.

Steve and Rita had 4 children together, Logan, Matthew and twins Adam and Nicholas.

Steve enjoyed a wide variety of music from classical to rap he had it all. His favorite band was Rush. Steve often played his bass guitar along with the music while listening to Rush.

Steve could also be found wrenching on cars whether it was his own or somebody else's always willing to help a hand.

Steve was active in Boy Scouts earning the highest rank of Eagle Scout in 1983.

Steve is survived by his wife Rita and their sons Logan, of Wausau, Matthew of Marathon City, Adam of Wausau and Nicholas of Spencer, IN. Two grandchildren Addilyn Bushar and Blake Nelson. His parents Wayne and Carolyn Nelson, Spencer, IN, sister Dawn Nelson of Spencer, IN. Sister-in-law Barb (Ron) Hitt, his god-son Michael Hitt, Brother-in-law Eric Butzlaff. Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Art Tautges. Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents Willis and Alice Nelson, Kenneth Jenson, Fred and Helen Synnot.

In-laws Gilbert and Erma Butzlaff, sister-in-law Gennie Kurth, nephew Andrew Hitt.

Steve was employed at Channeled Resources Group in Marathon City.

Steve graduated in 1986 from Phillips High School.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17, 2025, at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, gathering at 10am. Service at 11am noon lunch.1806 Weston Ave, Schofield, WI. Burial will be at Mosinee Cemetary, Mosinee, WI.
