Vickie L. McKay, age 65, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 15, 2024, with her loving family at her side. After 516 days of battling cancer.

Vickie was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on June 2, 1959, to the late Frank and Joyce (Sorel) McKay. She married Darwin Berndt in 1985 and together they raised Darwin's children and together they had Lana. They later divorced but continued to work together in raising their family.

Vickie had many titles in life. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years raising the kids till they were off to school. After moving to Sparta WI she began working in the office at Mathy Construction where she worked for 20+ years before moving back to Merrill to be with family. She also worked for many years at the American Legion in Sparta, Wisconsin where she was known for her cooking and many of the young staff thought of her as a mom. When she returned to Merrill she took a job that she loved, and the people she worked with at Crossbridge Community Bank.

Out of all the titles she had, her most important titles were mom, Nana, grandma, and great grandma. Vickie adored her family, especially the grandkids and loved every minute spent with them. Her family will miss her cooking, especially her famous "Rollie Pollie's," and "Frog Eye Salad" which she never used a recipe for so we hope we get it right when trying to continue her legacy. She will forever be remembered for her big heart, and how she was always there for everyone, no matter what. Her smile that would light up a room and sense of humor that made everyone laugh.

Vickie is survived by her dog Pixie and her children, Lana (James) Wendt and their children, Sophia, Lawson and Jaxlyn; Denise (Greg) Brandenburg and their children, Dimitri Alft, Alex (Kim) Brandenburg, Dylan (Sheena) Alft, Branden (Kellen) Brandenburg; David (Patti) Berndt, and their children Meranda (Eric) Wilke, Devan (Janessa) Berndt; Debbie Berndt and her children Alexis Berndt and Christian Koller; Julie Mortenson and her children Matt Berndt, Justin, Tabitha, Mariah Mortenson; Great grandchildren, Daxton, Lennix, Haizley, Tenille, Owen, Kennedy, Jamarkus, Olivia, Chance, Ambrose, Kyler, and Zyree; brothers, James (Teri) McKay and Greg (Tawny) McKay their children Kristie (Ray), Jacob (Amanda) and Caitlyn, sister in law Marilyn McKay and children, Brian (Kailey), Michael (Sara) ,Eric (Jenny) and Traci (Chazz). Special cousins Wendy Lappa and Tammy Nanninga; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Vickie was preceded in death by her daughter Amanda; brother Ted; niece Amy; her grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.

A celebration of Vickie's life will take place at Schult's Country Inn, W5931 Church Ave Merrill, WI on December 7th 2024 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. A lunch will be provided. A small prayer service at 3 pm.
