Obituary

William Patrick Hull, (Bill, Sweet William), born September 12, 1943, died September 26, 2026.

Bill went home to Heaven from the arms of his wife, Mary Lynne, daughter Wendy, and granddaughter Rachel, under the loving care of the Aspirus Palliative Staff, after valiantly fighting the battle of dementia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Edgar Hull, his sister, Rebecca Hull, and his only son, Robert J Hull. He also lost three brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law, in recent years.

Left to carry on his beloved memory are his wife of 63 years, Mary Lynne (DuBrucq) Hull; daughter, Wendy Lynne Hull; sisters, Bonnie (Dave) Baginski of Antigo, and Barbara Hull of Milwaukee. Bill leaves grandchildren, Sammy Lee, Alex Lee, Rachel Hull, and Cody Hull; as well as his great-grandchildren, Maddy Hull, Liam Hull, (his namesake), Lacey Lee, and Jameson Lee. To them he was known as Gramps, Poppa, and Poppy. Bill is also survived by four nieces, five nephews, and numerous grand nieces and nephews, along with a multitude of close friends that span many years.

Bill married his grade-school sweetheart, May Lynne at St. John’s Church in Antigo on October 26, 1963. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this October 26. They met on a blind date while in 7th and 8th grade, ice skating to their love song, YOUNG LOVE, at Kellogg’s Pond in Antigo.

He attended St. Mary’s grade school, played basketball, and graduated from Antigo Senior High in 1962, where he was All Conference in football, and earned his letter jacket.

Bill was employed by Antigo Block Co. in 1963 and spent a brief stint in Florida doing masonry, he worked many years with Stevens Point Concrete, and while living in Minocqua, he worked a number of years for Concrete Product of Rhinelander and did not retire until 73 from County Materials of Marathon.

Bill’s passion was woodworking, restoring antique ornate Victorian style furniture, building reproduction antique pieces of furniture to perfection, and re-purposing many forms of antique pieces such as old Singer Sewing Machine covers into beautiful treasure chests that our children, grandchildren, siblings, and many close friends have received over the years. He was an accomplished artisan with wood and a gifted perfectionist. Boulders and large river stone claimed his heart and imagination as well as was demonstrated in many rock gardens, walls, and memorials. Early in his stonework days, he did stone veneer work on homes and built the stone memorial at Veteran’s Memorial Park, Jack Lake, WI. He loved boating and especially tubing and water skiing with his kids and grandkids on Franklin Lake, Minocqua, where he spent 16 plus years enjoying swimming, sunsets and family activities all around him. Golf became a challenge during his years in Kronenwetter and Minocqua, where he became acquainted with many of his closest friends on the golf course. Camping was a favorite summertime activity where he earned another nickname, Chief Burn-um-wood, his campfires being huge and welcoming to the many friends he met over years of camping on Jack Lake, WI. Downhill skiing with his kids and snowmobiling filled his winter months.

As has been stated by his family, friends, and medical teams these past years, Bill’s sense of humor was unmatched. It never failed to keep us all smiles, especially when he would call and sing happy birthday to family. His unique gift of artistry and creation never became work, but always a passion to bring life to something old and discarded. His love of dogs, he had many over the years, and every dog he met loved him on sight. He was a gentle man, compassionate, never sought attention, and people from every walk of life called him friend. He was Mary Lynne’s soulmate most of all.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts can be sent to Inner Peace Home Care of Mosinee, WI, Palliative Care unit at Aspirus Hospital, Aspirus Hospice, Wounded Warriors, or the Humane Society of your choice.
