Yvonne (Vonnie) Redece Meyer

Vonnie was born December 11, 1934, the last of nine children of Henry and Selma West, on the West family farm on Baker Road near the Village of Mindoro in La Crosse County, Wisconsin. She learned to work and play on a farm that did not have electricity. She went to school at Pine Knob Grade School, Mindoro High School, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus. She earned a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Physical Education. To support the costs of college, she worked at her father's general store in Mindoro, Fontle's 5th Avenue in La Crosse, and as a vocalist for the Jerry Gilbertson Orchestra. Her seven years with the orchestra included traveling across the Midwest and appearing on a weekly TV show on WKBT in La Crosse.

Vonnie started her career as a Physical Education teacher in 1957 with 5 years at Holmen, WI. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Henry (Bill) Meyer in La Crosse. They were blessed with two children, Gina Louise in 1961, and Mark Henry in 1963. Vonnie and her family moved to Marshfield, WI, in 1963, and she taught at Purdy Junior High School and then Marshfield Junior High until 1990 completing her 32 years as a teacher. They spent their summers traveling with their family across the United States learning about our great nation. After retirement, Vonnie and Bill travelled all around the world visiting Asia, Europe, and Australia.

Vonnie is survived by Gina (daughter) and John Frick of Belton, TX, Mark (son) and Meg Meyer of Stevens Point, WI, four grandsons (Jacob Frick of Dallas, TX; Jason Frick of Austin, TX; Matthew Meyer of Stevens Point, WI; Max Meyer of Stevens Point, WI), many great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all eight of her siblings.

Vonnie passed away at the age of 89 on August 11, 2024 peacefully in her sleep. She loved music and dancing, so the soles of her shoes were well danced on. Her "gift of gab" and sense of humor were legendary. She didn't miss out on much in her life, so celebrate with us that she has gone to be with her Lord and Savior.
